The data acquisition rate used in all PEW Science testing is 1.0 MS/s (1 MHz).
The waveforms are not averaged, decimated, or filtered. The signatures of Shot 6 are displayed in the data presentation but are not included in the analysis to maintain consistency with the overall PEW Science dataset and bolt-closing signatures. Only five shots are considered in the analysis. Six cartridges were loaded into the magazine, the fire control group positioned to single-shot, and the weapon was fired until the magazine was empty and the bolt locked back on the follower of the empty magazine. The SOCOM 3-Prong flash hider mount is non-ported and contains so-called “labyrinth seals.” The presence of the seal rings, and more importantly the lack of ports, results in the 3-prong flash hider system exhibiting significantly different gas dynamics than does a ported WARCOMP-equipped SOCOM556-RC2 system. PEW Science tested the SOCOM556-RC2 on the MK18 with the SOCOM 3-Prong flash hider mount and also with the WARCOMP closed-tine flash hider mount. If you are looking for a good muzzle device, we recommend the Forward Controls Design 6315KM for 14.5″ barrels or the SOLGW NOX for 13.7′ or 13.9″ barrels. We also recommend using a high quality gas block that wont leak or break such as the Forward Controls Design GBF Be sure 100% you like the rail you will be installing because it is costly to change your mind later.
You should be aware that after the AR-15 barrel pin and weld is complete, you will no longer be able to remove the gas block or barrel nut. If the muzzle device to be used is a suppressor mount, we use a Precision Armament washer for alignment instead of a stack of shims.

We torque and time the muzzle device to be straight with the barrel, drill and install a pin that engages the barrel steel, and weld over the pin to prevent removal.
